Barbie is a busy doll. She began as a fashion model, but she quickly worked her way up to fashion designer. Then she decided that she’d like to be a ballerina… and a nurse… and a flight attendant! Over the years, Barbie has tried over 120 careers. She’s now 51 years old, but she is still trying new things, and she’s still gorgeous and stylish.
This year, Barbie takes on two new careers. Career #125 is News Anchor, and #126 is Computer Engineer (pictured at left).
“All the girls who imagine their futures through Barbie will learn that engineers — like girls — are free to explore infinite possibilities, limited only by their imagination,” says Nora Lin, President, Society of Women Engineers. “As a computer engineer, Barbie will show girls that women can turn their ideas into realities that have a direct and positive impact on people’s everyday lives in this exciting and rewarding career.”
To create an authentic look, Barbie® designers worked closely with the Society of Women Engineers and the National Academy of Engineering to develop the wardrobe and accessories for Computer Engineer Barbie®. Wearing a binary code patterned tee and equipped with all the latest gadgets including a smart phone, Bluetooth headset, and laptop travel bag, Computer Engineer Barbie® is geek chic.
Here are a few of Barbie’s careers: flight attendant, astronaut, surgeon, aerobics instructor, fire fighter, and chef. Wikipedia has a complete list of her careers, but sadly, no photos. If you want to practice job-related vocabulary, take a look at it. Barbie can probably teach you a few new words. Maybe she should be an English teacher!

Hi Rae!
How are you?
I have enjoyed your web-site, and learn English.
And I love the Barbie dolls.
I have some, Scarlett O’Hara, Audrey Hepburn etc.
Now I looking for Lady Gaga doll, I’ve never seen it in Singapore.
In U.S.A., do you sell the doll?
See you again!
Junko
Hello, Junko! I’m so glad that you enjoy the website, and I’m happy to see a comment from you! Hmm. I don’t know about a Lady Gaga doll, but you can find almost anything on amazon.com or ebay.com. Do you ever shop online?
